Dreamy houses.

Aww man, my heart is all gooey from looking at these two houses. Go on, have a perve.

Our first delicious place is via Apartment Therapy and is a "condo" (as they say in the USofA) belonging to poet Jessica and designer Eli. You know it's gonna be good with owners like that right?!
They have used the most lovely shade of grey, I am smitten with their green sofa, love their black doors, and am envious of their ability to not fill a place with clutter.
**************
The Second home belongs to Australian Lyn Gardner found via Design Sponge. Some words for you:
Claw foot bath. Library room. Garden bedroom. Old stuff*. Know what I'm sayin? Uhuh.
Niceness and prettyness abounds. And a girl has got to day dream right....

* I am currently boycotting the word vintage - overuse is killing it for me!

Nuffin'

 You know.. I'm always a litlle bemused by people who, when asked what they did on their day off, say 'nuffin' (coz you gotta say it like that - not 'nothing' it's always a nuffin). How exactly do you do nuffin?  I have no idea.

Things to be thankful for.

 * All the lovely comments I've had on my blog this week. You've made me feel very loved.
* Catching up with family this week. and being shouted breakfast and coffee!
* Another oppurtunity to do some fun lighting work in the fringe has arisen! Yay!
* At night time before the light gets turned out we lay face to face and talk about our days. I find it hard to sleep with out that little bit of debrief time.
* The Greens got a seat in the lower house. I reckon that's completely rad. Go Melbs.
* The sun set's in my break on wednesdays and Saturdays. Nothing like a sunset over Sydney harbour. {pic 3.}
* A whole day hanging out with my brother.
* Tax return returned. Thanks Government. Nuff said.
* I managed to miss Surry Hills not having any water for a few hours, but it reminded me of being in Uganda and not having the luxary of water from our taps. Amazing they had it back on in a few hours really.
* The uniquely Australian smell of back burning in the cold air. I love that summer smell mixed with winter fresh air.
* Fresh eggs from my parents chooks! Look at those lovely colours! {pic 6}

{things to be thankful for is a post I do every Saturday. It helps me sum up my week and remind myself of all the good things in my life. Feel free to play too and leave your *thankful's* in the comments or a link to yours on your blog. I will definitely check them out. *s*}

Etsy treasure

How cute are these little guys?! I may have become slightly besotted with my Etsy account and entered into a whole world of financial danger! Mmmm baking goods... I could shop for days. However, I won't (sweet husband) because these 4 mini tins of happyness have sated my appetite. You should check out Marcy's shop of goodies at Rhan Vintage she has so much great stuff and it's all very nicely priced! She was a dream shop owner to buy from and they arrived promptly to my door. Now... what to bake in them first?!

Fairy Light bed.

Did I ever show you my bedroom redesign part 2?  (part 1)
It's hard to keep this side of the room  tidy and nice for a picture (bed making, clothes folding, bleurgh) , but my headboard made from fairy lights always looks pretty. They are kinda shaped like theatre curtains, and since the boy isn't into 4 poster beds (neither is our narrow curvy staircase for that matter) this is as close as I'll get to a dramatic queenly chamber for now. I'm all about the little twinkely lights, they make me happy.
It only took four small nails in the wall, plus a couple of cable ties to make them stay. I used a pack of 200 lights.

Fairy Tale of Epic proportions!

My friend Mia found this awesome story told by a four year old french girl.

Sydney's best Op shop...

Well I am completely loath to let this one out of the bag, because, as we all know, there are no cheap 'n' fabulous op shops left in inner Sydney anymore. All but one (to my knowledge) has been sifted through by "vintage store" folks to sell for 12 times the price. However, if you wander down to Wooloomooloo, the dodgy end of it, on Forbes street you will find Hopestreet's op shop. And it is full of gold. Except right now it might not be because I just visited... but they refill every week. Here are my recent acquisitions from this tiny awesome Op shop.

Very cool set of 4 1950's Mally cannisters
A cute neck tie and
A VERY 90's denim, zip dress, that I am still contemplating whether to wear in public... it's a bit more errr... "figure hugging" than my usual attire!

ps. That cool cat Curbside is talking about sharing op shop love... so I thought I'd spill. I was just going to show you my spoils... but Hopestreet does pay my boys wages too, so I have a vested interest in you visiting! Enjoy!

From little things...

The best thing about planting seeds is that you have to plant more than you need because you never know how many will crop and then you get to give the excess away! We have broccoli, pumpkin and cucumber growing like crazy, so I sent these little guys over to my neighbour. It's such a wonderful thing to give some one a plant that you've grown. I left them on the doorstep and the next day I found a punnet of rocket seedlings on my doorstep in return!
Also, these happy little guys are growing on our kitchen windowsill! Aren't they cheery?!

Music for your week

They Might Be Giants, these guys have such a  cute and catchy sound. Ahh the poor electric car, one day I will have one.

Saturday, August 21

Things to be thankful for.

 * Crumpets. And crumpets being on sale.
* I live in a functioning democracy.
* I met Peter Cundall today! What a legend!
* I'm working on a brilliant piece of theatre. (It's a week in and I'm not yet bored!)
* It's time to switch to cooler PJs.
* The smell of fresh coffee beans before they get ground.
* I can play ping pong in my breaks at work. And I'm actually getting quite good!
* Major Op-shop (thrift store) success this week. I'll show the spoils later.
* My boy spoons me, even though my hair tickles his nose.
* This guy is making more music again! *Oh Sufjan.* Go have a listen to his new album.

Election count down.

I'm so excited and nervous about voting tomorrow! It's always a suprise to find that there is a good portion of people out there who don't think the same as me. I guess coz we usually hang around people that are like ourselves. I'm really excited for all the first time voters especially. There are HEAPS of them this year and that's really cool. Oh man, I hope it goes my way... don't you?!

Thinking political....

Kale Chips

So I came home to a new box of vegies that had been delivered. My housemate had written down what they all were on a note on the fridge along with their weight etc (he's meticulous like that). I was bemused to find "spinach" and then "different spinach" written down. Upon closer inspection "different spinach" was Kale. The super food I keep on hearing about on the foodie blogs I follow. After opening night last night I thought my boy and I could do with some super food for breakfast so I gave these Kale Chips a go, and boy I was not disappointed. I may have used a little too much salt this time round, but it is an awesome way to make this thick, heavy, green delicious. Oil, salt and garlic.. it's good for everything (except possibly your heart)?! There's another recipe here.
 What you do:
Clean, tear and dry your kale. Toss with lemon juice, garlic, salt and oil. Bake at 160 for 7-10 minutes until crisp.
Yum.

Images from the lovely Smitten Kitchen. (Because I rarely pull the camera out a breakfast time)
